STORM SUMMARY 1-5&6-13

An area of light snow moved into north central and northeast Illinois between 2-3pm. Prior to the arrival of the snow temperatures maxed out between 38-40 degrees and surface temperatures also reached the upper 30s to lower 40s. Precipitation was actually mainly in the form of plain rain in the Rockford area where temps remained around 34-36 degrees. Snow in the Chicago area mixed with some rain ata times between 4pm and 7pm before switching back to light snow which diminishes between 11pm and 12am. Mostly under an inch and just about all of it was on non paved surfaces like grass. The mild surface and air temps left most surfaces mainly wet or with some slushy accumulation in spots. The main concern was freezing of all of the water prior to dawn on 1-6. Temperatures were in the mid 30s as late as 3-4 am but then fell to the mid 20s between 4and 9am. Many folks did salting to prevent lots from turning into skating rinks prior the start of business and Church services on 1-6.
