STORM SUMMAY 1-10&11-14

Some spotty freezing drizzle and drizzle occurred from on an isolated basis between
7pm and 1pm. Meanwhile rain spread into the area between 1-3pm. Temperatures
at the onset were above freeze as well as the surface temps. The subsurface temps
however were only in the mid 20s. The cold subsurface temps ended up giving
everyone fits. Rain did not freeze on contact but rather icing occurred because of
the cold temps below. Surfaces became very slick and treacherous by late
afternoon/early evening. As fast as crews spread salt, the rain would dilute the salt
and refreezing occurred. Temps rose upper 30s to 40 by midnight which alleviated
a lot of the icing on the roads but the refreezing continued right into morning on the
11th. Total rainfall amounts were in the ½ to 1.25 range. This combined with
melting snow resulted in a lot of standing water and refreezing occurred Sat. night.
