STORM SUMMARY 11-20&21-2015

Snow began to fall lightly 5-7pm except there was a dry slot from around the loop southward through Kankakee and westward through Will County. This dry slow expanded up through Dupage and into southeast Kane county 9:30pm to 11pm.14.5 This dry slot then filled in. A band of moderate snow fell near the I90 corridor 8-10pm. This heavy band then shifted slowly further northward between 10pm and 3am –eventually shifting up into southern WI. As the heavier snow lifted Northward, the snow intensity lightened overnight which allowed temperatures to Inch up to 32-33 degrees and surface pavement temps south of I90 rose to 32.4 to 32.8 degrees. This allowed some of slush that formed on surfaces south of I90 to melt off on its own. Snow increased in intensity 9-11am until 1-3pm. This is when Areas south of I90 actually received the bulk of their pavement accumulation. Since the heavier snow come in a couple of waves, multiple plowing and salting Operations were required. This was the 2nd heaviest November snowfall in history for both Chicago and Rockford. Ord had 11.2 total snowfall or 4.2 on 11-20 and 7” on 11-21. Rockford had 8.8 inches 4.9 and 3.9 respectively. Some areas had 7-8 inches of snow south of I90 by dawn on 11-21 but little or no accum on the pavement by dawn.
