STORM SUMMARY 12-13&14-2013

An area of light snow spread into the area from south to north between 9-11pm mainly south of I90. Up to a couple of inches accumulated for areas south of the I88 corridor by midnight all ORD had was .2 while RFD had was just a trace. Mostly fairly light snow continued again mainly south of I90 till 4-5am. Rockford actually received a little freezing drizzle between 4-5am. The snow area expanded northward to cover the entire area after 5am. A strengthening low pressure system tracked across southeast Illinois during the early morning hours on the 14th while a surface trough of low pressure was pushing down towards the area from Minnesota. The combination of these two system resulted in the intensification of the snow area wide between 5am and 9-10am. This resulted in the inflated snow totals across northeast Illinois. Snow diminished in intensity by late morning with just some real light snow until late afternoon. Temperatures were fairly moderate during the snowfall as temperatures stayed between 27-30 degrees throughout. Most areas ended up in a 4-6 inch range. Since this occurred over the weekend, the reports of snow were somewhat scattered. Some locations reported snow on Saturday am but not on Sunday. The two day storm total for ORD was 4.2 inches, Rockford 2.1, Romeoville 4.1 inches
