More bands of rain and drizzle occurred. This turned to snow around Rockford
Between 3-4am. Preceding the changeover to snow there was a brief period of
Sleet and freezing rain. Snow occurred in Rockford as well as over DeKalb, McHenry and Lake Counties into midmorning where there were some good accumulations in spots. The Chicago area in general had rain turning briefly over to freezing rain and then to snow between 4-7am. Many areas had only a quick burst of snow with little or no accum. Flurries returned to the area towards evening and they stuck around through midnight. Temperatures were around 34 at midnight and they fell to 24 by midnight. Salting was needs in the Chicago area to combat some icing. Meanwhile It was a salting and plowing operation for Rockford to DKB and across McHenry and Lake Counties. The precipitation ended by 7-8am in Illinois on 12-22. Meanwhile, the flurries that stuck around through midnight on 12-22 continued till 10am on the 23rd. This activity left behind an additional dusting to about a quarter of an inch. This required additional salting on the morning of the 23rd. On the 22nd officially ORD only had a trace of snow Rockford 5.0 Romeoville .3 On the 23rd, Ord had .1, Rfd .1 Romeoville trace
