STORM SUMMARY 12-28-2015

A powerful storm system took aim on the area from the south. The storm began the day over Arkansas and ended up tracking right over the local area late evening. The system produced Very strong winds, an assortment of precipitation in the form of sleet, snow, freezing rain and eventually rain. Record amounts or precipitation occurred throughout the area as most areas Received 1-2 inches of precipitation. 1-3 inch accumulation of sleet occurred from Morris northward to the Illinois/Wisconsin line. Sleet, freezing rain mixed with some flakes spread into the area between 5-7am. Precipiation diminished to light rain and drizzle most areas after 7-9pm The precipitation showed signs at times of being convective in nature which accounted for the variability in the amounts with some isolated areas over 4 inches. Multiple salt applications were required throughout the day and due to the amount of sleet accumulation, plowing was also required. Some folks did their final cleanups early on the 29th.
