STORM SUMMARY 2-18&19-13
An area of rain spread into the area 3-5pm. Rainfall amounts ranged from .20 to .50 on the average. A strong cold front pushed through Rockford around 7pm and through the Chicago area between 9-10pm. Rain changed to snow 7-8pm and through Chicago area 9-11pm. Snowfall amounts were quite light south of I90 with trace amounts to ¼ inch and much of that was on non paved surfaces. There were some I inch totals northern tier of counties of IL. Temperatures climbed into the 50s during the afternoon hours on 2-18 but behind the cold front temperatures tumbled. By midnight Rockford was down to 20 degrees and readings around Chicago ranged from 24-25 degrees to 30 at the Lake front. Temperatures plummeted to near 10 at Rockford by 6am readings around Chicago ranged from 14-17 degrees. There was a lot of wind with gusts 40 mph from the west. These strong winds carried on through the work day on 2-19. The wind dried some surfaces but there still was a lot of freezing of water
On surfaces once air and surface temperatures fell below 32. Some lots and sidewalks were turned into skating rinks. Salting was recommended to everyone.
