STORM SUMMARY 2-3&2-4-2013

There were two separate clippers that moved through region on 2-3 and 2-4. The first one was a weaker system that produced trace to less than one half inch totals for much of the area. Light snow moved through mainly between 2am and 1pm. I won’t do a full roundup of snow totals with this first event since the second event overlapped the first and for most reporting stations there is no way to differentiate the amounts from each other. There were some isolated heavy bursts that resulted in slightly higher totals in a few spots. With temperatures in the teens During the duration of this first event, salting was needed. The second system was the stronger of the two and began producing snow between 9-10pm on the 3rd. The main snow
activity diminished 9-10am on the 4th with some flurries and snow showers that followed into the evening period of the 4th. Heaviest snowfall with the second event occurred between 2-3am and 6an which made a mess of a morning commute. Average snow amounts were in the 2-4 inch range with this system north of I88 with 1-2 inches south. Salting and plowing was needed for much of the area particularly north of I88 with the second system.
