STORM SUMMARY 3-5&6-13.

Winter storm warnings covered the entire area for the day. Two separate systems
produced widespread significant snowfall across the area requiring salting and plowing. The precipitation spread into the Rockford area between 4-5am and into Chicago 5-7am. Snowfall during the morning was most substantial around Rockford and into McHenry County where there were some 4-5 inch totals. Precipitation initially began as some rain and sleet from Will County southward before switching over to snow. Snowfall totals around Chicago up till noon to 1pm were mainly in the 2-3 range. Heavier snowfall moved into the Chicago area by 2pm and continued till early evening before diminishing to light snow which lingered till nearly midnight. Average amounts were in the 7-10 inch range across the area. Final cleanup ran into the early morning hours of 3-6 and some flurries also ran into 3-6 as well. Winds increased after 6-7pm on 3-5 which resulting in some blowing and drifting snow. This ended up being a record snowfall event for March the 5th for Chicago.
Much like previous storm, there was quite a bit of variability of snowfall totals from
spot to spot and even within individual cities and towns. The amounts listed below are just from one location and may not represent all areas within a city, town or village.
