STORM SUMMARY 2-27&28-11

Drizzle returned to the area between 2-4 pm on 2-27. ¼ to ½ inch hail was reported from Livingston County to Kankakee and into northwest Indiana. The drizzle turned into rain between 8-10pm with even some isolated thunderstorms which produced some sleet between 10-11pm. As temperatures nosed below freezing around 11pm, rain turned to freezing rain especially north of Will County. Freezing rain turned briefly to snow prior to ending between 1-2:30am on the 28th. Overnight temperatures dipped into the mid to upper 20s by daybreak. The combination of some freezing rain in addition to freezing of water left over from the prior rainfall turned untreated surfaces into ice skating rinks. Salting was required. Most areas only had trace amounts of snow but some of the northwest and north burbs did have some minor accumulation.
